Saturday Soundtrack – Brought to You By an Awesome Female Lead

3 Dec

Apparently Paramore has been around forever, according to A, who I promptly smacked and asked “why didn’t you tell me?!?” For my money, these guys pick up where Tsunami Bomb left off, and have filled the hole in my heart for a great woman-lead band that the many-hued-haired Agent M left when the band went dark. *sigh*

I hate when a band is great in the studio but has a crap live show. That’s why I’m showing this video from a live show in Japan, because I was thrilled to see that this was a band who does not disappoint live. By the way, if any of you hear about an upcoming tour, for the love of goodness, tell me! This song will soon be joining my running playlist, helping me kick it to the curb. Enjoy!

(Note: I just figured out how A. knew about Paramore and I didn’t: they have a song on a Twilight soundtrack. Ohhhhh…..)

Saturday Soundtack – It’s Beginning to Look A Lot Like Third Day

26 Nov

I wasn’t ready for Christmas to come. Like my good friend Adelle, I was caught off guard by the trees at Whole Foods, the decorations in Santana Row that were up the day after Halloween, the handmade ornaments that beckon so temptingly from The Land of the $200 Dress. However, Thanksgiving at our house means the return of background Christmas music, and nothing says Christmas to me like Third Day.

I don’t know what it is about Mac Powell’s voice, but it sends me. This is a voice blessed by God to bring joy to the world, and I don’t care who you are, I defy you to listen to the Third Day (Holiday) station on Pandora and not feel like decking the halls with peace on Earth, goodwill to men. There are a few singers who I look forward to making music with on the day when I kneel before the throne and lift my voice up to God (Jon Foreman, Jeremy Camp, Plumb), and Mac Powell is definitely counted among their number.  So join me in ushering in the holidays with the best Christmas music since Bing Crosby and David Bowie sang about a little boy with a drum. Enjoy!

Saturday Soundtack – Brought to You By Bad 80’s Annimation

19 Nov

introducing a new feature on BiRL: the Saturday Soundtrack! (Aren’t they all new features, this being a new blog and all? Oh, well.) I walk through life with a constant soundtrack playing in my head – yes, I am the star in my own movie, thank you for asking. In Saturday Soundtracks I’ll share what’s playing in my head right now. The music that makes me move, the tunes my toes are tapping to, the melodies that make memories…you get the idea. Hopefully you don’t think me schizophrenic after you see how varied the soundtrack of my life is. 🙂

Today’s Saturday Soundtrack goes out to my hubby, who is in Texas visiting his Ex-Pat bff. (Yes, Ex-Pat, because Texas is a different country.) I was trying to come up with the sappiest songs I’ve ever heard about missing someone, and this little gem from my childhood popped into my head. This also goes out to my mother, who taught me to love really bad Olivia Newton-John movies at a tender young age (remember when ONJ & John Travolta had matching mullets?). Oh, and you get a bonus of seeing some of the most cracked-out whimsical animation I’ve ever seen in a music video. Disney it is not. Enjoy!
