To Westley: Goodbye and Good Luck.

On Saturday we said goodbye to our second dog. It was a hard decision. He was a sweetheart, and we loved him, but too many things were in the way of him having a good life with us. He needs people who are home all day. He needs people who aren’t planning to have kids one day, and for whom kids aren’t a big part of their lives. We didn’t make this decision lightly, and we never, never would have given him back if we didn’t have complete assurance that the rescue would find him the best home. In the end, we decided it would be better to make the decision now instead of waiting until years down the road when we had children and he couldn’t make the change.

So we’re once again looking for dog number two. I’m keeping “adopt a second dog” crossed off on my 30 before 30 list though, because we adopted or second dog. He just couldn’t stay with us.

We loved or boy, and we know the perfect home is out there for him. Good luck, little friend.

Saturday Soundtrack – Baby, We Were Born to Run!

10 Dec

This one goes out to my aunt Annette, who taught me to love The Boss from a tender age.

I love Bruce Springsteen. I mean, I love Bruce Springsteen. One of best things that happened in my adult life was that he came out with another album and Gaga had Clarence Clemons cameo on my favorite song of hers just before he died. If I had a life-bucket list, seeing Bruce (and U2) would be on it. I used to use my Grandma’s taper candles to beat out the drum solo at the end of Born in the USA. So, yeah, I love me some Bruce.

Since I’m getting back into running, I thought it fitting to feature one of my favorite songs of all time – my theme song – for running. I have a shirt that says it as part of my ‘fake it ’till you make it’ campaign for becoming a runner: baby we were born to run!

#8 Complete – I Ran a Half Marathon!

9 Dec

On October 16, 2011, I ran a half in the Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco with two of my best girlfriends. For me, this fulfills #8 on The List: to set a rediculous challengs for myself that I [was] currently not capable of, and meet it.

The following is a re-post from my Team in Training blog, which won’t be around forever. So enjoy!

I have to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who donated, prayed, emailed, texted and tweeted your support. It’s because of you that I made it across that finish line (some of you literally – see below). Over all Team Fascinators raised $10,402.98 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. YOU DID THAT! That’s Team Fascinators Supporters: 1, Cancer: 0. Go team!

I’ve had a lot of questions from you since finishing the race, so I want to get a few of those out of the way before we get to the photos. Continue reading

Saturday Soundtrack – Brought to You By an Awesome Female Lead

3 Dec

Apparently Paramore has been around forever, according to A, who I promptly smacked and asked “why didn’t you tell me?!?” For my money, these guys pick up where Tsunami Bomb left off, and have filled the hole in my heart for a great woman-lead band that the many-hued-haired Agent M left when the band went dark. *sigh*

I hate when a band is great in the studio but has a crap live show. That’s why I’m showing this video from a live show in Japan, because I was thrilled to see that this was a band who does not disappoint live. By the way, if any of you hear about an upcoming tour, for the love of goodness, tell me! This song will soon be joining my running playlist, helping me kick it to the curb. Enjoy!

(Note: I just figured out how A. knew about Paramore and I didn’t: they have a song on a Twilight soundtrack. Ohhhhh…..)
